Science MINING FOR MICROBES

Microbial Formulations

Our team has isolated microbial strains, building a vast bank of microbes which we test on crops, sequencing their DNA and identifying which works best by crop type. Our biofertilziers are 100% compatible and readily integrated into current agricultural practices

Transformative Building Blocks

We have developed a range of alternative natural biofertilizer products using sustainably hand-harvested seaweed from the Atlantic ocean on the west coast of Ireland. Marine algae, crustacean by- products and nitrogen-fixing bacterial inoculants form the basis of these innovative products. Our products are made using a cold process technology to produce a liquid concentrate containing bioactive compounds, vitamins and minerals to promote natural plant health & growth.

Seaweed

The benefits of seaweed for plant growth, protection and soil quality are known for hundreds of years. Ascophyllum nodosum and Laminaria seaweeds utilized in the SeaMeGro range have been extensively analyzed in leading research centers globally. Traditional “black liquor” seaweed extracts and production processes have poorer performance because of the high energy demand for seaweed drying, high temperatures, harsh chemical extraction and evaporation processes. By comparison our proprietary cold process technology retains more bioactive compounds and micro-nutrients naturally present in seaweed.

Microbes

Nitrogen is an essential building block for life. Our isolated microbes play a vital role in enabling plants to naturally receive nitrogen through the root system turning it into plant nutrition. The microbes also play an important role in protecting plants from pathogens and anbiotic and biotic stresses. This replaces the reliance on traditional pesticides and herbicides that deplete the soil’s natural microbiome  requiring higher frequency of NPK application rates.

Biochar

Biochar is charcoal derived from forestry waste that is produced by pyrolysis of biomass in the absence of oxygen; it is used as a soil ameliorate for soil health benefits, carbon sequestration and waste management. Nitrogen fixing organisms such as Azotobacter and Rhizobia produce bio-available nitrogen for plants. The sponge like characteristics of biochar work in tandem with these organisms by helping to trap the nitrites and nitrates in the soil. The symbiosis between plant-fungi-bacteria within the environs of the biochar ultimately leads to a reduction in the requirements for pesticide and fertiliser usage for growers.

Chitin

Chitin is a fibrosis substance consisting of polysaccharides, formed from the cell walls of exoskeletons in crustaceans. It is extracted from seafood waste and when combined with seaweed and added to soil it stimulates the generation of biocontrol enzymes called chitinases. These promote base plant nutrition rich in nitrogen and phosphorus improving the soil microbiome for stronger plants and higher yields.

REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

SeaMeGro offers a new approach, linking land and sea, using regenerative agriculture and circular economy practices to deliver novel climate smart agro-forestry products which boost plant and crop productivity whilst delivering climate mitigation benefits. Regenerative agriculture is a system of principles and practices focused on biodiversity, soil health, ecosystem function, carbon sequestration, improving yields, climatic resilience and health and vitality for farming communities.
